Hi all, Just a quick question. I'm a 17th Ed domestic installer and qualified 2391 inspect & test. I 'm not registered as I do most of my work through building control. I have just been asked to do some PIR's. Can I do these without being registered? This seems to be a bit of a grey area.

Anyone can do PIRS (unfortunately).

You just have to be competent.

However, some companies will insist on NIC or ECA paperwork and that is were you are likely to fall down.

Having said that, you can always sub it out to someone registered and put your 'bit' on top when you invoice the client.

Only been in the business about 9 months - re trained when I left the military. Went down the domestic installer route (2381, EAL, 2391). Most of the work I have picked up has been either minor or extensions with a building inspector. I have a couple of extensions on the go at the moment so may use these to register. In the meantime I have just had a spanner in the works with a very lucrative offer from Dubai, so may put the electrical installing on hold for 15 months and grab the tax free option!!! At the moment we have to grab it while we can don't we. Thanks for replies - I'll have a word with the LA and see if they will accept non registered PIR's.
