Please help...at the end of my tether with transformer/Ring

Hi guys,

Really hoping for some simple advice after a 2 year battle with my Ring Pro doorbell. To cut a long story short, and spending £ on several plugin transformers and multiple replacement Pros, I have decided to use the 24v bell transformer supplied from Ring.

So, (and excuse incorrect terminology) I have connected the bell wire to the top of the transformer (24v out) and then some mains flex from bottom of the transformer to the plug.

Plugged the thing in to several power outlets and it has tripped the electrics each time. I am now thinking of trying my luck with a BG 24v bell transformer (in case Ring's is poor quality) and replace the fuse in the plug.

Am I missing something here and why would it constantly trip the electrics?

Any suggestions or advice welcome.

Is it wired up as the manual says?
When you say it trips the electrics do you mean it trips the RCD or circuit breaker?
Any chance of taking a pic of your consumer unit and telling is which device it trips.
Also take a pic of the wiring of the transformer.

No mechanical chime. The Ring requires 16-24v to work.

Yes wired as it says but to be honest it isn't too hard to not follow. It's literally L and N at the bottom and Bells at the top.
Again not a pro but each time the lights go off, microwave etc and one of the switches needs flicking back up in the CU.
FYI I am not housing the bell transformer in the CU due to space. so it's just being wired to a mains plug.

It would be hard to connect incorrectly as there are only two inputs at the bottom where the mains go. Worth noting, it worked in one of my power outlets in the kitchen weirdly but everywhere else trips.

at the plug you could do a continuity test between L and N if you have a multimeter - very cheap for a diy one.

ye i agree - seems unusual - was it a circuit breaker or the rcd that tripped?

Here you go. Wiring, transformer and the trip. Don’t ask me what trip went as the previous owners didn’t exactly label correctly. Suffice to say lights and appliances went! Strangely when plugged into the kitchen socket it works but others it doesn’t.

Just did. Same result. I really don’t get it. Twin and earth, new plug, doorbell isn’t drawing tons and the new trans that ring supplied

put a photo on of the internals of the plug. you shouldve used flex cable really.

Here you go. Yes I’ve just found out solid core isn’t that nice to work with for this. You’re probably going to tell me I’ve connected the plug wrong! Lol
