I have built a portable lighting game, and need advice on what safety testing would be needed for it to be used legally by private clients.

In effect it is an enclosure with 10 sockets (only 5 connected, to 5 separate bulbs, connected to a switch), and 20 tails (only 5 connected to power). The idea is that you connect 5 tails, flick the switch and see if any bulbs illuminate. You then work your way through them, 1 at a time untill all illuminated, whilst switching off in between.

What safety tests would first need to be completed before this could be used legally in the UK, by private clients?

Many thanks,

Luke.

I would definitely use extra low voltage for this, ideally 12 or 24V. Then all you need to do is buy a suitable off the shelf power supply, which will already have all the necessary approvals.

Don't use mains voltage - it's not worth the risk, especially as the equipment will be moved around regularly.

As the manufacturer of the device you should be certifying compliance with the UKCA marking scheme (equivalent of a CE mark)

Very good point! Will look into adapting to 12v ( the original was a prototype and only partly built, so no major cost lost.
