Hi guys would like your veiws on fixing twin sockets and fused spurs on the backs/sides of kitchen base units as have had a few different veiws on this one,i always install sockets and spurs to walls behind base units but a few sparks and kitchen fitters say that this is not required? And fixing on base units is ok? Are there any regs on this matter?

Nothing that i know of in the brb prevents mounting accessories on to base units but i do recall a building reg goes against this.

They need a means of isolation, they need to be accessable

Isolation. Some say a fused spur, some say a socket that can be unplugged, some say the appliance on/off is adequate

Accessability Some say behind the appliance because it can be removed,Some say on the back wall because it can be easily isolated, some say high up on the front of a cupboard, some say the cupboards are not part of the fabric of the building, some say the cupboards are part of the fabric

The point of the above,is that there are so many conflicting views, with no firm guidance of "you will do this" or "you will do that"
Whatever method you chose can be argued that it is the correct method
Personally,I do the same as yourself

This is another classic case of regulations being dreamed up by a clown. In my humble opinion if the unit is fixed to the wall, and the socket is fixed to the unit, then it must be all fixed to the fabric of the building as the good book says it should be.

if you want the building regulation no. its 5.2.2 Location of accessories in kitchens its page 60 of the guide to building regulations 1 ,and it uses the word preferably not mounted to the units but to the fabric of the building
