Discuss possible to change to a US socket? in the Australia area at ElectriciansForums.net

We're wondering if it's possible for an electrician to change our UK socket to a US socket, as we have a lot of devices from the states and don't wish to have dozens of adaptors around the house. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

BIG BANG!

Make loads of money from local Americans who do just that!

Please dont put UK plugs on your American bits and bobs

The local American bases sell the necessary adapter boxes, they are large and cumbersome.

How long will you be based in the UK?

It may be worth buying nearly new UK appliances and then selling them on Ebay when you are reposted?

The other option is fellow Americans who are being reposted, see what is up for sale on base second hand?

There is no easy way out of this I am afraid!!!

110v 60hz its great for business as I have several bases around here and they repeatedly plug items in wrongly.

Put your bits into storage, buy nearly new and sell it on at end of tour.

Ive had the same round here there was a rush of DJ mixers 8 in a month all blown up cut the plug off put a 13 amp plug on it an plug it in and BANG that will cost you £75 to repair thank you very much

Not a problem when your talking about, ....Washing Machines, Tumble Dryers, Cookers, Dish Washers, and the bigger Fridge Freezers etc!! These will almost always be 220/240 volt. As for the 60Hz, ...it's not going to cause much of a problem, in fact you'll hardly notice any difference on these types of appliances.

Had exactly this situation while working in the Middle East. The company bought all American White goods for our apartments. All were 220 volt/60 Hz ...When the local supply was European based, ..ie 230/240 volts/50Hz. One of the few things that was obvious, was that you couldn't take any notice of the cooker clock/timer!! All were still working perfectly well when i left 2.5 years later....
