Hi folks,

It’s obvious that wrong voltage setting on the meter, not removing sensitive equipment or not disconnecting loads will give wrong IR reading or fry up the equipment. During IR testing the cables are pressure tested with certain voltage & current to see if they leak.

Likewise, what are the mechanism in RCD testing, loop testing (Zs) and so on and what precautions one should take?

Thanks!

Well they are live tests so more of a precaution there.

The first is that continuity of protective conductors (and bonding conductors) is satisfactory, otherwise stray voltages can appear on metalwork etc.

The RCD tests should be performed after loop impedance tests.

Just as IQ said the loop test is done before the RCD to prove there is a reliable earth as the RCD test applies a voltage to the CPC. Without a reliable earth the CPC touch voltage could rise beyond a safe level.
