Problem with radio in my car

I have a 95 toyota tercel with a cassette deck. I was driving last night, and suddenly the cassette flipped sides rapidly back and forth. It wasn't a bad cassette because I tested it with the engine off. I'm pretty sure the dashboard lights dimmed slightly. I took the cassette out, left the radio on and drove about 40 minutes. This also happened in October, I took it to the mechanic, but they couldn't reproduce the condition. Any ideas?

I'm surprised you haven't chucked an MP3/CD player head unit in there by now. The last car I had with a cassette deck was a 1993 Kia Pride when I was a UNI student circa 2002.

this is my generation type issues. the problem is the motor of the cassete player is starting to take a dump. It can no longer pull the tape, and sees it as "stuck" or at the end, and so it flips to the other side, which it cant play that direction either.

Its like a bad transmission starting to do things like not be able to go in reverse.
