Discuss Protecting armoured cable through a masonry wall in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi, i'm new to the forum so bare with me. I'm just wondering what the regs are regarding protecting armoured cable passing through a masonry wall. I've
built a workshop/summerhouse at the bottom of my garden. I've run a 16mm 3 core armoured cable to it and done the necessary calcs regarding voltage drop
and current carrying capacity etc. My question is this, At the supply end when jointing the SWA, can i run the cable through the masonry cavity wall
with no additional protection, ie conduit, or would I be better terminating the SWA outside in an appropiate IP rated box, leaving the conductors long enough to come through the wall (in conduit) straight into my c.u, cheers.

either way is acceptable, IMO. your first suggestion is the easiest, but i would tube the SWA through the wall if only to give protection against chafing. drill from inside downwards at an angle .

All of your options will comply!! Personally i would run the cable through the wall within a plastic duct/pipe that can be sealed at both ends. Just to make any future replacement or whatever easier, but will also look like a pukka job has been done!! lol!!

Thanks all, advice greatly appreciated. I'll run it straight through the wall and take the advice of throwing some plastic ducting in for good measure, cheers.
