Would anyone be so kind as to reply to this post with the BS7671 wording of the definitions “Exposed Conductive Part” and "Extraneous Conductive Part".

At work right now (without ref books) and trying to remember if the definition of “Exposed Conductive Part” is restricted to part of an electrical installation, or can a "Exposed Conductive Part" exist outside of the ‘electrical installation’...

Many Thanks

an exposed conductive part is part of the electrical installation. e.g. metal boxes, containment, etc. an extraneous part is nothing to do with the installation, e.g. water pipes, gas pipes, structural metal.

An IT cabinet / rack containing electrical devices. Is this an extraneous or exposed conductive part?

The precise wording would help if anyone has regs book handy...

It technically is not port of the electrical installation yet could become live in the event of a fault...

so could a gas pipe. if it's a cabinet with electrical items in it, but not part of those items, i would say it's not an exposed conductive part. also, if it's not liable to introduce an earth potential, it's not extraneous either.
