Rcd Omission for additional socket

Hi all,just after some clarification fication. Posted recently about having been on the 2391 course and being told you can add a socket to an existing circuit with no rcd. Went to look at something for a friend to out another socket in where there is no rcd- any ideas? Didn't think you can get round it but want to try

Just fit an rcd socket

Obviously best to put rcbo in but chances of it not tripping on old install...

Install an rcd socket if your additional cabling doesn’t require additional protection.

The regs are clear, 13a socket outlets in dwellings require RCD protection.

Don't you carry out tests on a circuit before fitting an RCBO?

The omission of RCDs for sockets is not there to be used as a get around to make your job easier or cheaper, it's there for circumstances when it is necessary.

The rules have been progressively tightened up surrounding this issue due to abuse and misunderstanding of the rules.

It is only the additional socket that requires rcd protection unless the cable supplying it does aswell

You can add a socket to a circuit with no rcd however, this does not mean you can omit it for your addition.

I think you may have misinterpreted things.

When I was told you can add to a circuit without rcd or bonding,the only thing I can relate it to is coding no rcd as c3 rather than being c2, which I originally would have coded it as

You cannot manoeuvre around the fact the new socket requires additional rcd protection.

Alex I don't think it's a good idea to try and get away with not fitting an RCD because you think it might trip due to an existing fault!

Not saying it's a reason not to put it in,just meaning to say that it is something else to fix, rathher than spurring off socket on other side of wall,looks like it will be a case of what i was going to do and change existing socket to rcd spur and move socket to side and add addit8onal socket with both being on load side- but bedroom sockets so no real load

Why can’t you just fit an RCBO?
I imagine an RCBO, will be about the same price as an RCD FCU.

Why do you think that? Old doesn't automatically mean faulty.
