Could somebody provide some advice to a non-electrician. My tumble dryer has for some reason started tripping the RCD switch on my fuse box when turning it on. We have had the tumble dryer for some time and used it frequently without problems and have not added any other electrical equipment to the circuit that is affected.

Any ideas what the problem is and how I resolve it?

Thanks.

How do you know its your tumble dryer?
does it trip as soon as your dryer is turned on?

Unplug your tumble dryer, plug another appliance in to the same socket outlet... turn on.. Does it still trip ???

RCD tripping is usually a process of elimination

The tumble had been running for about 60 minutes and completed its cycle and I turned it on again for a further 30 minutes but as soon as I push the ON button it tripped the RCD switch. The same happened after resetting and trying again.

Have now plugged the kettle into the same socket and switched it on with no problems so it would seem there is an issue with the tumble dryer.

i have come across this befor and it was the tumble drier wich was leaking in to electricals after 60 mins you might find that it will dry out
if not you might need to look at having it repaired

Rcd's are a pain sometimes. Call your local tester and ask 'why does my circuit trip'?

he will say call an electrician...a real one ... -;)
