rcd tripping times

just a quick one doing some rcd tests today, and at x1 value the tripping time was 46mseconds and at x5 29mseconds now i no that as long as at x5 value is under 40mseconds all is ok just thought the x1 value was a bit high so my question is there a max value for times 1 as i must admit not had x1 values that high before your thoughts please

x1 should trip within 300mS. TN, or 200mS TT.

Depends if it's BS 4293 or BSEN61008 or rcbos BSEN 61009

This is an mcb not an RCD. If your cu has 60898 in, the rcd's will probably be 61008 as pete says. Or rcbo's 61009.

There all the same those switchy things than the wires go in. I only use the ones with 40 on them cause its my favourite number.

What is the point of conducting tests if you do not know what constitutes a good or bad result?

I had my way the would be razor wire across the border and any bugger trying to get across it into England would be shot.

There again I could take solence in the fact I catch a Welshman inside Chester city walls after 6 at night I can legally kill him as long it is with a bow and arrow.

Then they are not BS. It is BSEN 61009 300ms max 1x and 40ms max 5x. A BS type (4293) would be 200ms max 1x and 40ms max 5x. Wait until you test an MEM 30ma RCD, for whatever reason they are often 100+ms on 1x and only just scrape in under 40ms on 5x.
