I'm about to change 40 x MR16/G5.3 fittings, do away with transformers and replace with mains GU10 Lamp holders double insulated and GU10 LEDs. I hoped to keep the existing Lamp fittings but was concerned as label states G5.3 12v 50w max.Is it safe to use GU10 LED in these fittings?IMG_8908.jpeg

No, it will not be safe to use them. They are not designed for 230V. As an aside they are also not fire rated so should not be fitted if any living quarters above unless you put a fire hood on them. New ones are not expensive and would be the safe and correct option.
In addition you would need to get an electrician to test the existing earth and also for him/her to check if the existing circuit is RCD protected and if so to test the RCD is within parameters (amongst other required tests).

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it. My initial idea was to replace Mr16 transformers with gu10 lamp holder as illustrated in photo, I had read that the double insulated GU10 holders don't require an earth? I thought this would be ok to use with existing MR16 lamp fittings but looks like I'm wrong. The MR16s were installed around 18 years ago by an electrician, the circuits are RCD protected. I thought replacing these with GU10s is something I could do myself, with some advice from you guys. So the Jcc twist and Lock might be the way to go then? any install advice, links etc greatly appreciated trying to keep cost to a minimum! light.jpg

option 3 is the best bet, or:
option 4: integrated fitting (like JCC V50, or similar).
