Yes you can replace the coker with a sock plate which brand will you be useing pringle socks are ok ,it will slip over nicely, there might be a sock plate behind the gas cooker you could fit a sock their has well .

OP: Yes, its ok to replace the cooker switch with a double socket. Following safe isolation procedures.
 
Can you lads help me out, I have two red wires, two black wires, and three green earth wires, I know red is live black is neutral, do I put the both reds in the live, and the two black together in neutral, thats how It was when came out, one earth in one end and two earth wires together in the other end I just want make sure. upload_2018-12-8_15-47-41.jpeg
 
The lower cable probably, and I say probably goes to the cooker outlet plate which is not required. Connect the upper cable but make the other safe before reconnecting the power.
