Hi

Newbie here looking for expert advice as wanting to replace all white light switches/sockets in our flat with brushed silver

All stud walls so assume 35mm dry lined back box but for double gang socket can I fit 25mm as most state 25mm

looking at getting a couple with USB sockets. Are these practical enough. looking at 3.1amp rather than 2.1amp

What are good makes as looking an BG Nexus

Any sensible advice much appreciated

Please check that there is a cpc (earth) to each of the light switch points before going any further.

Also, I would be enclined to fit 35mm boxes to all sockets where you have enough available depth available.

Finally, although changing fittings like switches and sockets is not a notifiable job in itself, you will need the skills and equipment to ensure you have kept the integrity of the electrical safety.

Such as ring continuity and earth loop impedance

If you are changing ALL the accessories (switches, sockets, etc) in the flat, then make sure whatever range you choose, you can get all the types you need. Some ranges don't always include every type e.g. cooker isolator (without socket single/double, with socket), any coax outlets (UHF, Satellite), etc.

More than once, I've been to change all the accessories in a property, and the customer has been missing one such as the right style of cooker isolator, and they have had to take the others in the room back to change, so they can all match.

Also, if you have any double 1-gang boxes, sometimes decorative faceplates don't fit. For example, a single socket and FCU adjacent. The decorative faceplates are often a bit wider than standard white accessories.
