I'd think twice if I were you. Construction is dead, people aren't moving, home improvements are on the back burner.

If you've got employment, stay where you are AND don't believe the £50K earnings advertised by short course training companies - its a load of bxllxcks.

Don't mince them words Murdoch.

Deciding to train to be an electrician was the best decision I ever made. Yes, it was a slow start at the beginning and as an apprentice I hated it! Worksites in the winter (never again) and rubbish rate of pay....................but i stuck at it and kept going. Completing courses bit by bit and feeling my way into the industry, eventually I got to a point where i needed a different challenge within the industry so looked for work abroad.

Been working abroad in a hot climate (Yay) for 9 months now, earning ££££'s a year tax free, commencing a HNC open uni course whilst i'm here.................and i'm 25 yrs old.

So, my advice is.........if you want something badly enough............go for it. Because believe me i wanted this soo badly and it took me 7 years to get to this stage.............but i still want more.

Good luck and don't be put off by what other folk say!

Short training courses **** me off so so so much, i don't know how they're even allowed to get away with it. It makes me sick that people think they can become fully competent in a few months when it takes years doing it the proper route.

But anyway, Lam Thai welcome....and if you're going down the proper route then good luck and stick to it, it's a great career. If you're doing a short course don't waste you're time and money, you won't find employment and youll end up on rouge traders.

welcome before deciding check out all costs not just college courses realise the time and effort envolved is it possible to acheive without an aprentiship?make sure the courses you pay for are relevant and needed to do the type of electrical work you want to do.ask in this forum advise before you pay for any courses as there are many qualifications out there but only a few employers will take seriously.:D
