Returning to be an electrician

I would appreciate some advice.

I am going to return to electrical work, I have been out of the business for over ten years. I am time served but a bit rusty. I am going to start on my own (part time) doing mostly domestic. What courses do I need or would be advisable to attend.Would I need to do the full 17th Edition course of just the refresher (It was 20 years ago since the last one so I suspect the full course). Is the 2391 the testing course required or advisable.

I don't know whats involved for part P, and the cost of joining a trade organisation.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

yes you are right you will need to do the full course with regards to the regs.

As to the 2391 it depends on what part of the industry you will be doing ie Maintenance or installation it can be benifitional to do which every part of the industry you go to work in

Have enrolled for the 17th edition, might be night time or hopefully full day if there is enough interest.

I think i'll do the testing course after as i think i'm far to rusty.

Then do I start trading and get some liability ins (£80 ish depending how much liablility).Appropriate testing equip, dust of the tools.

Then after a few months (6 for nic) apply to a comp. persons scheme/membership. Is NICEIC the one most go for. It seems the most reconisgned but I understand there are a few alternatives. Then get some jobs inspected (hopefully they will comply).

Is that then it??
