..Just wondered if anyone had used a right angle attachment on an otherwise ordinary drill.. the right angled drill themselves are pricey, and since I wouldnt use it much.. I thought the 'attachments' may be a feasible option. They only cost about £20.. I think.. but look a bit 'dodgey' to me..

Yes I have used them a bit fiddley to say the least but do the job bought mine a while back when I lived in folkestone shop around mine cost me £6.95.

You wil probably want to drill the odd joist as well as soon as you have one. I got one , about 20 quid as you say, it wasnt long before the gears mashed up in the unit. Dont catch the trigger either by accident like on the way back down a ladder either, as the whole thing obviously spins, along with the bit in it, and its bloody dangerous.
I now have a proper mackita 14 V angle drill, good bit of kit and cost £100. I am glad I bought it.

I was in the same boat, thinking I would only occasionally use it so bought a £24.99 right angle attachment and used it once. Absolutly hated it so bought a Makita 110v Right Angle drill for £190 and use it all the time. I used to drill joists with my Bosch SDS but obviously the holes are always either angled up or down so pulling long runs was a nightmare. Most sparkys I met onsite said that straight holes are only needed by plumbers for obvious reasons, however I took no notice and now drill perfect holes everytime.

It was a large layout for a tool but it has paid for itself already I believe in time saved. I also bought some Armeg beaver bits on some members recomendations and they are great.

Buy the real thing!!!

I now have a battery one for the odd hole and a mains one for a run in Joists.

Short auger bit for drilling up into stud walls from under the floor etc, couldnt do without mine!!!

If you want an angle drill for joists, studding etc then Makita is the only one to use. Mine was used continually for almost 15 years, with only new brushes, before one of the angle gear shafts sheared. Replacement parts about £25, fitted myself and back in use after one week downtime. Auger bits kept sharp and you can drill a house out before the cheapo sparks start struggling with angled holes yet again. Brilliant kit.
