Ring circuit fault issue

Hi.
Had a guy in yesterday to look at the tumble dryer and he told my wife he couldn’t work on it because the ring circuit of the house had a fault showing on his meter of over 2 ohms.
Wasn’t quite sure what this meant but I’m taking it as neutral to earth leakage???
I don’t really have any test gear but when I power off my board I see a continuity reading between earth and live wires. I then removed each earth one at a time and found that all this leakage was on my cooker circuit.
I then took out the cooker (which is plugged into a double socket) and still saw this leakage. My microwave is also on this socket and when I removed it the leakage was gone. A test of the plug of my microwave showed around 7 m ohms. Now this is done with just a fluke so no real voltage.
Could this be the cause of what he told my wife?
House testing isn’t something I do and just need guidance if the thought is that this is what he has picked up on because he ha cut the lead off the dryer and my wife now thinks the house will blow up!!!

Difficult to say but unless everything is isolated from the circuit and the incoming supply we are merely guessing

He cut the plug off your dryer because there was a fault on the house wiring?? If that is true then I wouldn't trust a word he says.

Also, the tests you are doing are haphazard at best, and aren't really proving anything. I would recommend getting an electrician in to do some proper testing of the ring circuit to put you and your wife's mind at rest.

Someone on here may be local. It shouldn't cost much. Keep us posted.

Liverpool is on my patch. as DPG's 1st para. the guy is an idiot. he's probably got a high ZS reading and is too thick to find out why. ( this aimed at OP's"electrician", not OP himself.

Why is an appliance "engineer" testing your RFC? Unless he is an experienced qualified electrician then he has no right to comment on it. If he suspects there is a problem then he should just advise you get a professional in to check it out properly.

I think he's just plugged a Zs tester into the socket to check there's nothing seriously wrong before installing the dryer.

Most likely he is referring to earth fault loop impedance, depending on the type of incoming supply you have this could be either perfectly normal or a problem. Without knowing the type of incoming supply you have we can’t really comment further. If you post pictures of the incoming supply, meter and fuseboards we may be able to advise.

If he has cut the plug off of the appliance without your permission I would personally be bringing charges of criminal damage against the idiot.

I've come across this sort of thing on quite a few occasions where appliance 'engineers' refuse to connect something because 'it's over 2 ohms' or some other value plucked out of God knows where. Given that the earthing system or type of protective device are not taken into account you wonder what planet they come from.
My personal favourite was a call from an old lady worried because the Currys muppet had refused to connect her new cooker 'because half the fuseboard is new and half is old'. It turned out to be a 16th split main switch/RCD board. After a stroppy call to Currys they refunded her connection fee.

Cut the lead off?? WTF! I’d be having words with him!
