Hi, Im new to fault finding, Im on a job where there is no live to live continuity on the ring final circuit which supplys the sockets to the whole house, with new flooring recently installed I cant access the floors, im assuming there are many jbs because its a 1960s property, if I connect one leg of the ring to the cu then go around each socket with a martindale, am I right in saying ill have power to every socket to a point, then at the point I have no power I can split the ring there and convert the final circuit to 2 20amp radials, cheers.

If you split the ring at a particular point, you then need to power up the other half to find the next socket, or you’ll be left with the dodgy joint on one of the legs.

Can alternatively be done via dead testing of course.

still likely to be a loose connection behind a socket. Have you actually found them all or is there one hiding in a kitchen cupboard somewhere?
High level bathroom heater point?
Behind a large price of furniture?

I think that you need to work out exactly what is wired to where.
there is a possibility that it is not a ring
it could be that there is more than 1 fault.

if you use the method you have suggested, you should then power up the other side of the ring and see what is working.

however, i think if i was doing the job, i would be inclined to remove all the socket faces and test continuity between each socket, to determine on what cable leg the fault actually is.

true! Yes all sockets have been known snd checked for any loose connections or breaks

DIY Shelves / Tvs , and wet-pants learning about being too near a socket .
Hidden JBs get too much blame !

True! But kitchen fitters should get plenty of blame!!

P.S. I fit kitchens too!!
