Discuss Rubber grommet on new consumer unit install - fire risk? in the Security Alarms, Door Entry and CCTV (Public) area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi All,
Just looking for some advice, had a new CU fitted and the installer incorrectly drilled a cable access hole in the side of the CU. Once he noticed the mistake he just fitted a rubber closed grommet.

I'm a little unsure if this meets the requirements as surely the whole point of the new(ish) metal CUs is that it will contain fire. Obviously this will now not be the case?

Any advice greatly received,
Thanks in advance,

Which plane is the hole on the vertical or horizontal?
If horizontal, top or botom?
Can you see the hole or is the hole up against the ceiling?
Is there any chance of anyone taking the blind grommet out and sticking pinkies into the CU?

As lee said, there's nothing wrong with it regards maintaining a fire. I would have done exactly the same thing... however, I would also have kicked myself and sworn quietly at my stupidity in taking the wrong cut out out.

Did you ask your spark about this or did you think you would ---- on him by coming here and hoping we would slate him?

Did you ask your spark about this or did you think you would **** on him by coming here and hoping we would slate him?

Like the customer that couldn't get the Texecom app (notifications) to work on his mobile as he thought it should work so refused to pay the bill for the whole install (he specd Texecom after some research, I'd have gone for Enforcer)

only thing i'd perhaps do is to put a bit of gorilla snot glue on the grommet
