I went to see a job today, Replace existing elec shower + upgrade to 10mm, install elec shower in place of thermostatic (madness in my eyes but hey!) in ensuite
I would like to go from bathroom - loft - down outside wall - into garage. Theyve just had all decoration + new carpets so this the best option.

Whats peoples recomendations on protection of cable? both cables will take the same route up the outside wall.
Cant use SWA as client already bought 10mm!

Thanks in advance

metal earthed conduit if you want to go exotic ,the big question is are you outside the eqipotential zone??

could you not put the 10mm t&e in some rigid pvc 25mm conduit? and obviously back up with an RCD/RCBO?
wayne can you explain how/why this is/or could be outside the equipotential zone? and how this is different/or not! to a outside lighting cable in conduit on the outside wall.

(2x) 10mm T&E in 25mm round conduit? Will it fit?

Im just joining the domestic scene comming from stage / touring electrics so im a bit green on these things.

Many thanks

I would tell the client that you have to use SWA, and offer to by 10mm off him (discounted price!). I ran T&E on an outside wall once - it lasted about 2 years! Damn British weather.

The SWA will also look better than T&E on the outside of the property. First thing I think of when I see T&E on an outside wall is "GASH BAS***D!

Is there no other way down from loft, what about airing cupboard or fitted wardrobes ?

Then there is something wrong with your work, not the brit weather..is this a wind up?

Whilst we have all seen twin and earth clipped to an outside wall, and if we are honest many of us will admit to having done it, the cable is not designed for external application as the plastics will react with sunlight and can become brittle. Two 10mm2 T&E clipped down a wall does seem a bit much.

In view of the fact that the customer has spent so much on his home he obviously has a pride in his residence. I would explain to him that the cables cliiped down the wall would not look as good as armoured and that it would be detrimental to the aesthetics of the property.

Picking Shakey's brains, where the cable is not being used in accordance with manufacturers recommendations could clipping T&E on an external wall be regarded as non compliant with regulations?

Cant see why, we have all done it for outside lights ! (not 10mill though, unless its wembley !)

I agree, we have all done it, but does that make it right?

It's just something that crossed my mind reading this thread.

Whether it is right or wrong I would not like 2 x 10mm2 T&E down my wall.

Must admit I was a bit green behind the ears at that time and it wasnt just the weather but a couple of pesky magpies also helped. found one of them dead on the morning my shower failed!:D
