Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has any information (or could get hold of some) regarding diagnosing and fixing backlight faults on that particular Samsung LCD TV/Monitor?

I've managed to get a service manual which helpfully makes it clear that the power supply board (where the CFL inverter is for the backlight) is available as a sub-assembly, but it does provide some insight into the backlight control signals from the main board to the power board, but not enough.

I'm really after some detailed information about the connection between the main board and the power board, specifically the signals that appear to be related to the back light.

I've already recapped the SMPSU and that appears to be working fine, providing +5v and +15v. There is a +15v supply to the inverter and I've already swapped out the inverter transformer.

When the unit powers up from cold, it appears that the backlight works... for a few seconds, then goes off. But can come on the next time it's turned off and back on.

It's doing my nut as I suspect it's probably something very simple. The video side of the thing is working a treat (shine a light through the display and you can see it's great) and I don't like admitting defeat, but I just can't find any information to take my investigation that little bit farther.

I'll give an optimistic thanks in advance now :)

Thanks

Right...
I have a UE40H Samsung,which is a few years old,and it started performing,going off,etc

Being an engineering tight-wad,i was not about to launch it in a skip, with the memory of dragging it through the Trafford center, still fresh in my mind,so...

I got googling, and found a yankee Youtube tutorial, with a dude who explained the process,of determining whether a fault, was in the backlighting unit, main board,or power supply.

I did this, took a guess on the appropriate, board, got the number code off the pcb,and ebayed a second hand one,at 30 quid.

Had it not worked,i would have probably told no-one;) swallowed the trouble and moved on,but i'm watching it now:)

Whatever you do,don't let the hoover near that pile of little, black self-tappers:eek:
