One hell of a load on the joists !If you're intrigued by the topic, check out (I think this is correct) the Gosforth Handyman on YouTube... he's been filming a renovation which included constructing a sound proof room for a studio in the garden and he installed a sand filled plasterboard for sound deadening... it was very effective.
Yep loose, just like vermiculite in between ceiling joistsSurely not loose sand though ??
I am too easily frustrated with things like uploading pictures. Anyway multiple holes above the bathroom for a new light bought a fairly healthy stream of fine sand particles much like something from an egg timer. Never seen it before.Don't delete the thread, I'm intrigued!
What's this all about? Sound deadening? Haven't seen this before,.
Apart from that how do you delete a post?
This is a low rise block built in the 60's or 70's I would say. There's another flat above this ground floor apartmentOld houses can have a layer of deafening between floors.
Akin to lath and plaster on walls. Thin strips of wood laid on supports between the joists, then covered with a plaster or loose mix of mortar.
Space between ceiling, wood and floor
After 80 odd years or so, the mortar has dried, crumbled and turned to sand. Especially if disturbed.
You make a small hole in the ceiling… or take a light fitting down…. And it just pours out
