Hello everyone, wonder if anyone can help me with this, I,ve just installed two outside pir security lights on a 5 year old extention to an existing switched feed from the downstairs lighting circuit, nice neat job, they work fine,
two days later i get a call, "when you switch off the downstairs toilet light the outside lights come on" i go back when its dark and guess what, every 1 in 5 times(ish) you turn off the bog light the outside lights come on, this only happens with the bog light tho, does anyone know what it is or any idea's :sweatdrop:

yeah i know about the switch, i could swap it for an fcu but it would'nt make any difference to the lights?

That's how. If you'd wired them right then you wouldn't have the problem, the feed to them should be permanently live

Switch the bog light on and off twice within 3 seconds and if the toilet doesn't flush you've cocked up..........so to speak:)

Nothing wrong with being on a switch as such, but it needs to be one which is left on permanently, unless as already said, you need to override it by switching on and off so many times within a few seconds.
Are you a DIY'er?

The extension was only 5 yrs old, dear me. every day a school day i guess

I have a PIR light on the outside of my shed which, although wired correctly to the permanent feed of the lighting circuit, more often than not comes on in 'manual override' mode when the shed's twin fluorescent is switched off, so it could well be interference from something in your bathroom.

I had same trouble but flourescent was in customers kitchen and though not everytime when kitchen light was switched on one of the pirs outside came on. I swapped the starter in the fluorescent and it cured it. the starter was a like for like and not electronic.

If you're having a problem with PIR operated security lights, you need to chat with a bloke called Top Cat. You'll find him on "the other forum" and he knows ALL about them.:wink_smile:
