Greetings all,

My friend asked me, the other day, to have a look at her vacuum cleaner, which is a VAX model, as the wire is loose.

I unscrewed all the screws to the plastic base, but was unable to gain access to the motor, where the flex is connected.

There are several screws which im assuming are shaped differently to prevent unauthorised access. They resemble a star like shape, and are different to hex screws.

Does anybody know the name of them, before l go and make myself look stupid at the wholesalers, by trying to describe them?

Thanks

If they are hex screws with a pin in the middle, I have always called them vandle proof screws, I dont know where I heard it from, but everyone has known what I was talking about. You see them a lot with CCTV. A well placed small terminal screwdriver will undo them;)

And usually bust out the pin. Get a security bit set off e-bay for about a fiver, youll only ever use about 2 of them but its a handy addition to your toolbox.

we had to put these in every socket/switch/fcu instead of normal 3.5 screws when we did a newbuild mental health unit, also all ironmongery doorhinges lightfittings basically anything where a screw was on show had these, so as they couldnt undo slotted ones with their fingernails hence they earnt the nickname loonyscrews on site!! think they are generally called security screws and you can get screwdriver bits for them from places like screwfix
