Hi,

I have roof to quote, a large church with a huge south facing roof at 40degrees.

Problem is that there is a big tree just in front of the roof in the garden of the church which enjoys a tree preservation order. The tree casts a huge shadow over the roof pretty much all the time.

The roof is large enough for around 25kWp of conventional 250w panels

What I'm thing is....would a 10kWp thin film array be an option. I understand that thin film is much less affected by shadows and takes about twice the roof area. Ideal 10kWp less than 16amps per phase, higher FIT rate, happy days???

Problem is who sells thin film panels, how much are they and would it work?

Help!

TPO's don't prevent trimming back or crown lifting etc - they just mean your local council (and the owner) will need to OK the trimming first. We own two trees wth TPO's - last year a neighbour applied to have some lower brnaches removed that were over-hanging their front drive. This year we've applied to remove several lower branches.

Put in a TPO planning application (no charge usually - you can do it yourself, we do. Form is probably on your council's website) into the council explaining what you would like to do. They tend to want a qualified tree-surgeon do the work. Our council just send an official around who looks at what branches you want to remove and every time so far has given the go-ahead (or in the case of the neighbour we gave the OK along with the council - although actually I think if the tree is over-hanging their property then they have certain rights anyway).
