Discuss shallow 2-gang dimmer switch - any suggestions? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi all,
I have had to replace a 2-gang dimmer switch in a bedroom.

Unfortunately, the ones I have tried were all a little too deep. By the time I had pushed them into the back box, it was quite tight against the wires. I was able to screw it on but I am a little concerned that there won't be enough space in there for any heat to go out.

I was wondering if any of you know of a range of dimmers that is particularly shallow. It could be because the modules don't protrude too much or because the face plate is itself a little deeper.

It needs to be a 2-gang dimmer in brushed steel.

Cheers
Fred

You can buy cheapy dimmers with fairly flush controls due to the fact the dimmer plate is about an inch think lol, but agree with murdock, whip the box out and get a 35mm2 box in there, job done and job done right.

You would think that someone could invent a dimmer that has a virtually non existent back to it being digital or something.

Trouble is, you're controlling power - this is going to involve heat in some way, and the components need to be big enough and have enough room to allow the heat to dissipate or be heat-sinked away. Daz
