Hi there,

I have been shortening some leads around my house so they look a bit nicer and tidier.

I am about to to the same to my lamp cable but i notice it has no earth.

Is it still OK for me to cut the cable and re wire the plug?

Also why doesn't this one have an earth?

Thank You.

If it has the square within a square symbol on it then it is a class 2 item and doesn't require an earth.

Just wait until someone else in your house decides to move the furniture round, and all these lamps are now 6 inches or so too short to reach a socket

Cct the one without the earth when you cut them just don’t get them crossed and you should be alright
