Discuss should i earth my steel garage work bench to the power point next to the bench. in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net
Hi - noting that things may be different in NZ, but up here your home’s garage bench work top would be “just a piece of steel” in the room and not need any action.Should i earth my garage steel bench top,it is constructed of timber but has a 3mm steel top,
my concern was if it should suddenly come alive, whilst i am working with electrics,(safety first) bench is not bonded, was installed by previous owner, who was a small engine mechanic.apreciate your adviceto be pedantic, it wouldnot be earthed, it would be bonded, but onlyif it were proven to be extraneous, whichi doubt.
Thank you much appreciatedthe only way the bench top could become live is if a live conductor or electricasl part cameint contact with it. ask yourself what the possibility of that would be.
I did have a rubber mat that i used, which seems to dissapear, earthing the bench was incase i forgot put mat down first, cheers and thankuA metal topped bench isn't the greatest thing to carry out electrical work on.
I wouldn’t think so because if it’s made from wood it would not have a path to ground even with the steel seatShould i earth my garage steel bench top,it is constructed of timber but has a 3mm steel top,
