hi..
i have a single phase AC induction generator rated at 1500 rpm (star-delta excitation) coupled to a turbine.
but unfortunately turbine is running at 1300 rpm.
Will induction generator give any output (low voltage, current) or NO ???

pls reply

thanks
tarang

It will give a stable voltage and current at low rpm but the frequency of the supply will be less than it should. IE if the generator was 50hz at 1500rpm it might only be 40hz at 1300rpm. If you're only supplying linear loads such as heating elements it shouldn't be a problem. There is however a good chance you might damage motors with the lower frequency supply.

At 1300 RPM the output will be 43.3 Hz. The AVR may be able to maintain the voltage, but the KVA rating will be reduced.

What sort of loads are you supplying?
At 43 Hz’s just don’t connect any clocks to it.

This is a experimental setup (for analysis in turbines).
I will be using electric bulbs..

But i want to know something...won't AC induction gen work as motor at +ve slip..

(i just saw the characterstic curves for AC generator)

Yes it can work as a motor, but where is it going to get it’s supply from? It’s one of the reasons reverse power relays are fitted to generators, to stop the generator motoring.
