We are doing a quote for a slate roof and know from previous threads that there is the difference of opinion about drilling vs removal of the slate tile in order to secure the roof fixings. We have had some training with a well known company and they advocate removal of the tile but instead of using lead flashing they use something called Ubiflex.

Has anyone come across this or know of another cost-effective way of tackling slate roofs without compromising the integrity of the roof? We would prefer not to drill.

Hi, a lot of our customers go down this route for slate roof installations. We supply Ubiflex - please give us a call for a price list. 01642 606096.

Yes we use ubiflex !!! it is good to slide and stick up under brackets etc for extra protection but would not use it to replace a full slate or anything

We've used lead and Ubiflex on slate roofs and the Ubiflex seems fine - it's just a bit thicker which makes it a little more difficult to slide under the slates. I've tried to attach a couple of pics of the two different ways we've done the slate hooks (only have pics with lead but the Ubiflex certainly worked on the second method)

be careful who you talk about this to, once it's in the public arena you can't get a patent, and you don't need to give too much away. Even discussing it with familly/friends can jeopodise your application.
I would say £4-5 per bracket, but it depends, if it's a unique and revolutionary product that people must have then you could charge more.

why dont you give one of the option of giving it a trial run once completed !!!!! slate roof is like a lotto they either very good stong slate or a total night mare !!! if I come across cheap chinese slates again I will not start the job as we had two jobs with these slates and caused us more trouble than they are worth I think I used

over 100 new slates

when one broke you went to fix it then another

same, ive not yet done hard slate yet, i did a roof that had fake slate, like a compsite matial on a methodist church, good grief it was hurrendous, never again.
