The new smart meters are being designed to give a "last gasp" alarm signal if the supply to the meter is cut.

This will immediately alert the authorities to any unauthorised removal of a cut out fuse:innocent:

How do the meters communicate the data normally, is it modulated on to the line? Would like to read an article if anyone has one.

However it happens, if the meter is missing from an interrogation, they can assume that it is powered down or faulty.

Bg smart meters use a vodafone sim card. No alarm is sent if the power is cut, however we have found that ifthe power is out for a few hours the meter will shut down.

Given the usual response time for a DNO or supply company I wouldn’t worry about it. Like all smart ideas practicality doesn’t seem to have been taken in to account. What are they going to do have a flying squad of inspectors? I can just see the control centre, rows of high speed motor cycles lined up, in reality a pimply kid on a push bike. Finances will rule day.

If the meter shuts down and needs resetting their loosing revenue along with putting people in danger.

Just have a blown DNO fuse handy, and blame the outage on the fuse...lol!!
The Seal, ....well that wasn't there when i arrived Me' Lord!!

Now let's be real about all this, with the amount of money these companies have made out of the standing charges over the years, from every single supply/meter they have ever installed, it's about time they uprated their installations by supplying a means of safe isolation at no cost to the customer. Hell, you have paid for that isolator a million times over, ....and then some!! Especially from all those older installations out there.
