hi there,
i got a job to fit smoke alarms in office premises, it is 7 office rooms + kitchen. i am not sure whether it should be fire panel with zones or shal i just fit regular interlink domestic smoke alarms? what government body will inspect and give approval for this type of job? thanks for your answers guys

I would have thought that maybe interlinked smokes with a heat in the kitchen would be adequate.

BS5839 will give you some guidance.

Check your insurance covers you for fitting fire alarms in offices, if not you could find your self with a very large bill if something went wrong.

Get a 2 zone (to allow for expansion) panel in there. Put a smoke in every room and a heat in the kitchen. You could put in sounder bases which would basically require a 4 core running to each detector/sounder base or run a seperate sounder circuit. If public enter the building you might also need strobes/sounder strobes. Don't forget to put a detector in the lobby/entrance hall and a break glass on exit routes and at the entrance/exit.

Blimey, Ive just told you how to do the job, that'll be 10 pounds please ;)

Why guess? just call the local fire prevention, they will come and give guidence for free. Most times fire officers like to give input, detour round the council and ask direct from the guys that count

Thanks guys. Your answers gave me chance to it from different angles which is great and very helpfull, appreciated. Thanks very much once again! Rgrds Ralf
