hey all!!

would a smoke alarm circuit be vunerable or give out false readings on the live insulation resistance test? or is it worth me just connecting the lives and testing to earth? well and the interconnecter.

cheers all :)

When you IR test a smoke circuit you should disconnect the actual smoke detectors, then the circuit can be tested as normal and readings should be as normal, you should now that electronic equipment is vunerable when doing these tests and where possible should always be removed, if for some reason you cannot disconnect them all you can use 250v on your tester instead of 500v, but only in these circumstances.

Hi clare r, as KFORDHUNTER mentions you should remove the alarms where possible, it does'nt take long and then you know you are getting true results for the circuit.
