Discuss socket box cutter. any good in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Like the description says, they are really good in blocks and from my experience they do a really neat job. However, you start chopping into hard brick (which for me is when you really need them becuse chopping into block is quick and easy by hand anyway) then the tool soon wears out and in my case (I've had 2 of them) they crack and fall to bits.

Had a couple of these now.

In softer materials they're cracking bits of kit. Like most things that cuts and grind they do wear out and they're prone to breaking espcially when my mate used it incorrectly!!! Arggghhh...

They do need to be used square on, chase in. lift off and start again. They can't be moved down or across when chasing as that knackers the teeth on them. The smaller rectangular one is the best I've found as it allows my 2.5kg SDS enough energy to do it's job, the bigger square one obviously spreads the impact of the SDS over a greater area so can struggle when in slightly harder materials. Then smaller one is also spot on for chasing in tubing for cable runs.

With care and in the right material they're great. Without care and in hard materials you might as well pour money down the drain because they will break!
