Hi all
Looking at rewiring a kitchen for a customer. In a previous renovation they had french doors installed which left a socket almost on the corner of the opening Now that I am looking to fully revamp the kitchen including a new CU is there a reg that says how close to an opening a socket can be ?

No specific Reg as such, but could fall foul of external influenceses section of regs ,if you consider it could be knocked when going in and out of the door or if it is likely to be splashed by rainwater .also the flex of-Any appliance plugged into it may also cause a tripping hazard at the doorway-your descision really Sanke

Hi sparklad
Not overly happy with positioning as when doors open etc the socket could get wet & of course there is the tendency to use it to power lawnmower etc
Need to take a spur feed to island unit so wil probably use this, thus getting rid of the socket :)

Sounds like a good solution--by the way why is it a problem if someone was to use it for the lawnmower ? it is RCD protected isnt it ? or at least it will be when you fit the new C.U wont it ?-- are you referring to the tripping hazard ?

i don't think he means the rcd tripping more like trailing the lead for the lawnmower if some one walks out the house and trip over the lead they will be seeing the stars
correct me if am wrong sparkylad

A cable plugged into a socket by the kitchen door is less of a trip hazard than one plugged in on a penninsular unit within the kitchen for example.
