Hi everyone I am going to be doing a job where I am fitting soffit lights. Problem is the customer has purchased lights which are IP20 rated. I would always fit IP65 rated lights outdoors but customer is adamant they want these lights in. Anyone have info on regulations regarding IP20 rated lights as I have saw outdoor IP20 rated downlights online. Cheers

I dont see a problem, yes argubally that ip65 would give greater protection to the fitting but are hardly going to be subject to any splashes of rain under the soffet, what do manufacturer instructions say? You could always comment on the mwc/eic about the ip rating and customer supplied fittings. Tin hat on :)

i've fitted several IP20 rated downlights in soffits over a few years and never had any comebacks. just be careful that the insulation muppets ain't stuffed the void with their itchy-poo snot.

Hi - I wouldn't do it myself as 2 means finger protection, so they may fill up with insects and 0 means zero water protection. I know, I'm a conservative killjoy. I'll get back in my cupboard now.

insects can still get in from above. even fire rated fittings have holes in the can big enough for waspies.

Also in regards to space around the light there is no specification about ventilation that has came with the lights and there is a beam which can't be moved near one of the lights. Normally I would leave 50mm but here that can't be done although the front end of the light has adequate ventilation. Anyone any info on this?
