Talking to the DNO operator was like trying to explain what was wrong with it to my to my wife:) I can see what has happened, someone has poked the earth down the Hockey stick, a stones throw from the cabinet is an earth rod for an outbuilding, when connecting up they have assumed that the cable went to the earth rod.
I think this just goes to show how important it is to have any work undertaken by a competent person, this was found as the result of a fitting a pendant light for a friend of the Mrs on my way home! Also goes to show how important it is to test however small the job!

Nothing surprises us anymore!
I was at a house couple of months ago and I connected a waggling earthing conductor that had been like that for 30 years eversince the woman moved in. TNS.
Zs went from 247 to 0.24 odd. Now that woman DID think I was a hero . . . Until I stood on the kitten!
