Dont know how true this is but at about 1970 a neighbor who was a lecturer at Glasgow told me that Lord Kelvin had placed a block of pitch on an inclined board to see if it flowed down hill to prove that it was actually a liquid. The neighbor said that this board and pitch was still in the uni and was the longest running experiment in the world.
