Hi all

Looking for some advice, we are 1st fixing a new build and customer wants some speakers fitted in lounge and dining rooms. I have no experience in this field so any advice would be great. I assume a amp is required but the tv' s are wall mounted and i am unsure what cabling is required. We have run cat 5 to each tv point ready for Internet tv. But that's as far as my knowledge goes... Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Gary

Is this for surround sound? If so you need to establish if he wants 5.1 or 7.1, or if an upgrade is likely then run the spare cables now. Use decent cable, not just bell wire! You will probably need more than just a cat5, think HDMI, or you can, I believe, run HDMI signal over a cat5 pair. Is this also a multi room installation or does each room have it's own source? I would seek advice from a specialist, consider Richer Sounds who are actually pretty knowledgeable and they do sell some top kit as well. Or sub it out to a local HiFi dealer. If you get this wrong it'll sound awful, easy to blame someone else!

For running cable in walls I use 6mm trirate, anything else is just a waste of money. Give us some more info and I'm sure we can give some pointers.

as above, good quality cable is a must and anything worth installing will cost you a minimum around same as 2.5mm T&E give or take.!! ceiling speakers dot co uk are v helpful and good rates on monitor audio etc. depends on if its for music audio or AV home cinema etc as this is a massive biggy in design. anyway they are v helpful and will even spec on your architects drawings if you email them over to them. They don't really have a good selection on av receivers as they don't have the call for them nor buying power at discount but speakers wise they are very good. Great stereo speakers by monitor audio etc for corridors and small bathrooms. oh - and don't forget sound proofing and plasterboard fire ratings and compartments etc when you go ahead and bust those ceilings :) good luck with it

Also keep your audio cables away from your power cables for interference reasons.
