Discuss Splitting Cat5 Ethernet connection in the Computer and Networking Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Thanks for the picture. Is the orange cable the usual cat5? Looks thicker. Very neat indeed.

It's Cat5 FTP (screened).

Usual Cat5e is unscreened and as it's all under floor boards in close proximity of 240v i opted for screened and earthed the cable down at the switch end.

Hi,

Sorry for delay in responding. Thankyou for your response. I used external cat5 and know that it is all running nicely and as fast as the connection in the house. I think now the client just wants wireless in the office. Didn't need to run the extra cables- oh well.
I will look for a bit of wireless kit to plug into my the wired connection.

Chris.

Don't worry too much the wires will be useful when the client finds all his neighbours have swamped the area with wireless transmissions and are interfering with his system, just when they want to send that important email!

Wireless is great, when it works, but many think that wireless is a very useful supplement to -but not replacement for -wired connections.
