Hi guys,

I am looking to start my own website but have no idea how to.

I know I need to purchase and address but i don't know were the best place to do this is, and were to go from there.

Please could you point me in the right direction and give me some advice?

Thanks

Craig

I use Godaddy or Heart Internet.

ALWAYS but the web domain outright and in your name / your business name as owner etc

The free sites sometimes give you the somain name for free, but they own it and can take it from you if you fall out with them

Well it all depends how much do you know.

If you don`t know anything about being a webmaster than you need to find somebody who will design and host a website for you.

If you are prepaired to learn to be a webmaster than go to Domain Names, Web Hosting and SSL Certificates - Go Daddy to register a co.uk domain name for about £8-9. After this you will need a hosting plan. I recomend Dreamhost. They are about £10 per month and one of the best out there when it comes to customer service.

If you want to build the website yourself than you need Dreamweaver to do it. It is easy to build a small website with a few simple pages on it.

Well, now that I am thinking - if you want to build the website yourself, I will put it online for you with my hosting (I can have unlimited websites with my hosting plan) for a £5 a month as long as you don`t want to change something every other day. You would still need to register the domain name with godaddy.

Anyway... a small website should be no more than £200-300 to be built professionally by a company.

Thanks for the rplies guys.

Murdoch - didn't really have a budget in mind, but thinking probably only want to spend a few hundred max!

Zsoltimatrix - thank you for the offer and advice. Think I might have a go at building my own. Thanks again.

If you're going to spend a "few hundred" you should be able to get something quite good. My developer did a great job - PM me and I'll send you his details.

I did my site myself after getting prices of £500+

It's deliberately basic and does the job. I did it on Microsoft Word and then put it on my hosting package

I get work from it and it's a good point of contact for customers - they look it up to get my email address and fax number

preparing for critisim

wow, you should have said put your sun glasses on! A bit to "busy" and in my opinion, far too much on the first page.
