Hi Guys,

Been asked by a family friend for advice about what storage heaters to go for. They've got 4 in total in the house and have said only ones working properly so want them all changing. What are people recommending when being asked by customers to change all storage heaters? I'm currently working for a company that does commercial maintenance so bit out of touch with whats available on the market for domestic storage heaters.

Thanks in advance

Well, you need to consider dismantling and disposal.

Carrying all the parts too the rooms, assembly, connection etc.

Testing outlets

Documentation and invoicing

Your day rate

Then how many hours it would take.

My guess would be about 1.5 hours each

Hi Murdoch thanks for your reply but I think I may not have explained the question properly. Was just looking for what brands/model series people are using nowadays? I've done bit of research and Dimplex quantum seem very good but obviously quite pricy. Spoken to the wholesaler and they say they are stocking Elnur which they say is popular. So was just wondering if any guys had installed these or any other brands that they would recommend from experience of fitting them/efficiency/cost savings for customer etc?

The good thing with Dimplex is spare parts availability if required down the line. As for fitting they are probably generally all the same in that respect. I did change one for a relative back last year and that was a Dimplex and it was straight forward just follow the instructions if you have not done one before. But as said above allow at least 1.5 hours per heater possibly 2 if you are dismantling the old ones.

It's not easy to get rid of storage heaters now, at least not round here, might be diferent in other parts of the UK.
Last one I did I took it to the local tip only to be told that they cannot accept it unless every part had been wraped in plastic. I think he called it 1000 guage. I checked on the council's web site to have it confirmed and it was true, not only that but there are now only 3 council run waste sites in West Sussex that take storage heaters.

Let the customer dispose of them.
