I might have asked about cable stripping and preparing on earlier time - sorry if a repeat.

I need to save time in pulling off the outer sheath of plastic around cables. Does anyone know of some wonder tool that could do this in a jiffy? atm I'm scoring a line with Stanley and not always doing to the right depth and often the circle does not match up!

What I had in mind was a sort of semi-circle affair where you place the cable at the length where you want to cut, close the top cutter on that, maybe rotate the cable, or the tool (like a copper pipe cutter), and pull the thing toward you so leaving the bit you want, all neat and ready for further work.

Am I dreaming of such a tool?

Thanks.

Gawd, how can I afford that?! Anyway, it only does inner cables cable the look of it, not the outer sheath? Or have I mis-read that?

Re: Stripping the outer black sheath off cable - is there an ideal tool for this anyw

Yeah, I mis-read it. The second pic shows it doing larger dia stuff.

Theres loads of em. Do a search on Google for cable stripper.

What sort of cable are you on about too?

Cable with outer diameter of 9mm. Sometimes rubber coated, sometimes, if not always, pvc coated.

I found tons of them on ebay - priced about ÂŁ23. Seems to be made of two pieces of aluminium section with holes cut in it. Looks like you have to open it each time you want to strip?

Saw something at elex show last week, it uses a cordless drill and it scores the cable, works quick as well. I'll see if I still have there flyer for you.

Jokari is a fantastic tool, and there are many different types for all occasions.

Again, not cheap but my god, they save time and hassle.

I've always used a locking stanley knife. The secret is to always have a sharp blade....:wink5:

I know its a fairly old thread, but I have one from C.K - they call it a kabifix for some odd reason. You just press it down, wind it round the cable once then pull it down the cable and hey presto - cable stripped. I find it to be really good and you can adjust it for different thicknesses.

Re: Stripping the outer black sheath off cable - is there an ideal tool for this anyw

I'm getting on very well with the Jokari. Seems just right for my little operations.
