Hi Everyone

Looking for you knowledgeable people to help me out with question about the routing of sub-mains.
UKPowerNetworks are soon to install a new 3-phase supply to an external meter box. This will supply two separately owned maisonettes (shared Freehold) - one on ground floor and the other directly above from switched fuses with SWA to the individual CU's.
Whilst the electrician is on holiday the builders are ready to run the SWA through the ground floor void to the new CU location and around the external walls to the upstairs maisonette ready for connection (under ground is not an option).
Having seen the size of the SWA cable and the number of 90 degree turns to be negotiated for the upstairs maisonette it will be really difficult as well as unsightly.

By far the easiest solution would be to run both sub-mains through the ground floor void and run one cable straight up an internal wall to the upstairs maisonette.

As owner of the downstairs maisonette I am happy for this to go ahead and whilst not ideal are there any regulations preventing this from happening?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Electrically it should be OK, but you should ensure there is some access arrangements to the maisonette cable in case of maintenance requirements and the separate building ownership may cause problems with another power supply running through your property at a later date.

Hum.... "straight up an internal wall" - this needs thought and use of safe zones...........

Thanks Richard a good point - Have now checked the Lease agreements and they already make provision for maintenance - "upon proper notice being given to the occupier of the other maisonette and likewise the tenant shall for the same purpose permit the Landlords and the tenant of the other maisonette access to pipes, wires, ducts where they are in the demised premises"

Its SWA so reg 522.6.204 will apply so safe zones and depth don't apply but the cable should be installed in such a manner the minimise penetration etc throughout its use 522.6.1.

In an ideal world the cable wouldn't be installed through the bottom property but if it has to a purpose made boxing in would be better imo.
