Does anyone know a neater way of connecting 2 consumer units to an external meter box?
I was thinking of cu in meter box, to protect the amoured into the house, then have a mainswitch in an enclosure in the house, (so the whole house can be isolated,) then have split tails from the switch to the boards.

The only thing I about this is the messy service blocks! Any suggestions?? Usually just go to one board in house! but this house is crammed full of downlighters!!!

Ok.

First of all you will need a form of isolation in the meter cabinet ideally a M/C switchfuse (wylex type??) to gland armour into for bonding.

At the other end you could then gland this feed into another wylex type switchfuse as these have 2 sets of terminals on the feed side to enable you to take the feed in and then a feed out to another switchfuse with your dis boards then being on the load side of the switchfuses.

You just need to keep an eye on loading as I dont know what size swa you have, inst method etc

Essentially then the switchfuse in the cabinet will isolate all supllies into the house. with each dis board having it's own switchfuse adjacent to it. Something like a 100A incoming and then 2 x 60A arrangement for the switchfuses

Without henleys this I think is the only way.

The only thing to be aware of is parallell paths from the armouring of the cable and the actual earth conductor, assuming you are using 3c swa.

Hope this helps.:D

Thanks lennytheloon, very helpful. I always use the switchfuses in the meter boxes but didn't think of using them again in the house...it makes sense and would defineately look better! As for the supply I still don't know yet, the contractor has got them coming in next week, as it stands the old supply still comes directely into the house where the old meter is, with a TT supply. I was hoping that they would change to pme and so 3core SWA is running out to the box.

I was only going to earth armour at meter box switchfuse....I thought that would eliminate the parrellel paths?
