Discuss Supply loft light from unused shower cable in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I was asked a question today if it would be possible to use an existing cable that was previously installed to supply a shower which has been taken out (6mm T+E) to feed a light in the loft. Initially I said no it wasn’t good practice to do this, but now I’m thinking as-long as the MCB is downgraded to 6 amp and the light was switched using a fused spur with 3 amp fuse is there really anything wrong with doing this?

Just looking for some advice on the matter.

Thanks

You could either change the MCB to one that protected the smaller cable that you join to the 6mm, or put in a FCU between the cable sizes to do the same job, but there is no real need to do both.
