Hi,

As part of my project I have to explain how exactly does a switched maintained emergency lighting system works? Also, how what is the best method of testing such a system and how often. the emergency lighting system will be in a supermarket.

Cheers

Thanks for that. So, in the Supermarket there will be rows of lights for each aisle. I will have to locate a test switch somewhere to test the lighting. Does this switch just knock off power to the normal lighting and allow the emergency lights to operate and be tested, when required? Would you recommend having one switch for all the lights or dividing them up into circuits?

We put an emergency key switch in per circuit. All it does is cut the permanent feed of your 3 core to simulate a power cut.

I'm not sure on how often they have to be tested, but every 3 months seems to be ringing a bell but I'm not entirely sure.
