Hi all, whilst doing some appliance testing I have come across about 8 switching adapters that power computer monitors but I am confused as to why they all contain 10a fuses as I thought with the low power rating the fuse would be rated much lower, or am I missing something? Pictures attached for reference. Thanks in advance

It's most likely going to be to handle the inrush current.

Switch mode power supplies have some sizeable inductors and capacitors that can cause big spikes when they are first powered on.

agree with sparkychick. altough it's rare to see these PSUs with a fuse in the plug at all.

Seems funny but one of our PAT lads a few years ago had something similar but not quite the same as those. He popped out the 13A fuse but had to go to his van for some more 3A fuses, in the meantime someone plugged it back in and it still functioned.

Still lots of adapters and extension sockets out there sold from the usual internet sites that are non-compliant, the fuses are not connected into the line and the cables are drastically undersized.
The fuses are naff, too...
